WHO?

I was born and raised in the mean streets of Christchurch, New Zealand. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up: "a fisherman, a fireman, and a dad." I'm currently zero for three.

When I was five years old, we rescued a duck from the jaws of our cat and it became my best friend. Daffy ate cat food, used the cat flap, and generally thought she was a cat. She also swore revenge on her feline nemesis and would attack on sight. Pretty badass.

Before that, during a particularly speedy naked dash from bathtub to fireplace, I took a turn too fast and rocketed butt-first through a glass door. The doctor opted not to stitch a "moving target."

I grew up playing the violin, but at fourteen decided that guitars were cooler. To this day I remember one Irish jig by muscle memory. Working with music and musicians remains a passion.

The first film I ever saw was Prancer, released the year I was born. I was hooked. My love of movies extended first to countless Hi8 projects, and much later to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film) at the University of Canterbury.

I began my professional career in the local film and television industry in New Zealand, bouncing between camera and sound departments and gaining experience with the various facets of production. I produced, directed, shot and/or edited all manner of corporate, commercial, and music video projects. Once I shot an interview with a 10,000 year old Sumatran spirit called Tabosh... he sounded suspiciously like a New Zealander doing a funny accent.

My adventures eventually brought me to Los Angeles. I was eligible for a one-year work visa and I decided to throw myself into the unknown. With some perseverance and a good helping of luck, Craigslist provided (a job and an apartment). I met my amazing wife. One year turned into twelve, and content production grew into creative leadership. I'm now a US citizen but still miss a good steak and cheese pie and a kiwi flat white. The accent is hanging in there but I'm starting to sound like that spirit medium.

These days, I bring my diverse creative experience to brands looking for the nimbleness, efficiency, and accessibility of in-house creative. I've spent the last ten years building and leading creative teams in both emerging start-up and big public company environments. While I love all facets of creative - graphic design, brand strategy and identity, print & packaging, creative operations - I still have a special place in my heart for digital campaigns and non-traditional content.

I currently lead a global creative team at Dragonfly, working across their vast portfolio of ecommerce brands and products.
